PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metallic carrier for a catalytic convertor which is well diffused and joined without being attended with buckling in the whole from the central part of a vortically wound metallic honeycomb body to the outer peripheral part and is used for purifying exhaust gas. SOLUTION: The metallic carrier 1 is manufactured by inserting a metallic honeycomb body 2 into an outer cylinder 3 made of metal. The metallic honeycomb body 2 is constituted by superposing band-shaped flat foils 5 and band- shaped wavy foils 6 formed by corrugating and working the flat foils 5, in which the ridges of the respective waves are positioned in the width direction. The honeycomb body 2 is provided with vortically wound many vent holes 4. In this case, surface roughness of the flat foils 5 and the wavy foils 6 is 0.001-0.3 μm as average roughness Rac in the direction (direction C) of the vent holes 4. Further, the surface shapes of both foils are >=100 as PPI in the same direction. Thereby, durability is excellent and the metallic carrier is diffused and joined at the temperature lower than heretofore and also manufactured industrially and stably. |
