PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To judge the quality of a welded state from the bead width at the time of butt welding metal plates and to judge the existence of the deviation of the weld position from the target position in the butt welding of a pair of works having different plate thickness. SOLUTION: The cross section profile of the weld zone of butt welded works 1, 2 is measured by a light-section method or the like, the imaginary and effective bead width rather smaller than the actual width of the bead 3 is calculated by a numerical operation from the coordinate data on the cross section shape of the upper and bottom surfaces of works 1, 2 and the surface of the bead 3. Utilizing that this effective bead width is positively correlated with the actual bead width, the quality of the welded state of the penetration or the like of the bead 3 is judged based on the effective bead width. Also, in the case of butt welding works 1, 2 having different plate thickness, the inclination of the cross section profile of the bead 3 is measured, the existence of the deviation of the weld position is judged by comparing the measured inclination value with the pre-recorded reference value. |
