There is an apparatus for purifying a liquid such as water using electrolysis to form a floculating agent to bind with impurities in said liquid. The apparatus comprises a tank (1) with side walls (2) which converge toward the top to an overflow outlet (3) of reduced area. There are electrodes (5, 6) arranged adjacent the bottom (7) of the tank (1). At least a portion of these electrodes (5, 6) follows the inside wall surfaces of the tank. The electrodes may be in the form of spirals which follow the wall surfaces of a circular tank and define a cavity (10) at the tank centre. The bottom (7) of the tank may also be sloped toward an outlet (24) for the removal of sediment. |
