PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the material for a high sensitivity gas sensor or a high performance temp. sensor by subjecting an iron-palladium allay or an iron- palladium-manganese alloy having a specified compsn. to form into a foil material, fine wire or a ribbon wire rod and thereafter executing annealing. SOLUTION: An alloy having a compsn. contg., by atom, 5 to 65% iron, and the balance palladium with a small amt. of impurities or an allay contg. 5 to 65% iron, 0.001 to 20% manganese, and the balance palladium with a small amt. of impurities is prepd. This alloy is melted in a reducing gas or in a vacuum to form into an ingot, which is thereafter subjected to hot working and cold working at a working ratio of >=25% to form into a wire rod having 10 to 100μm wire diameter. This wire rod is annealed at 600 to 1300 deg.C in a nonoxidizing gas, in a reducing gas or in a vacuum to form into an electric resistance wire in which the average resistance temp. coefficient at 0 to 200 deg.C or 0 to 400 deg.C is regulated to 4000×10<-6> deg.C<-1> .
