The lead is coiled around a spool (1) rotatably mounted inside a sleeve. With one end of the lead located outside the sleeve and the opposite end secured to the spool, rotating the spool in one direction coils the lead, whilst rotating the spool in the opposite direction uncoils the lead. The spool is spring-loaded in the coiling direction using a spring (5) coiled around a drive wheel (2) rotatably mounted inside the spool. A gearwheel transmission is used as the coupling between the toothed outer circumference (9) of the drive wheel (2) and the toothed inner circumference (6) of the spool.
