PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an orienting film with which a liquid crystal display element of high reliability can be obtd. with high production yield by applying and calcining a soln. containing polyamic acid and specifying the imidization rate of the surface. SOLUTION: Such a liquid crystal orienting film is used that is produced by applying and calcining a soln. containing polyamic acid, and that the imidization rate of the surface is >80% by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS). The orienting film has uniform thickness because a soln. containing a polyamic acid is used, and has excellent adhesion property. Since the imidization rate of the orienting film surface to be in contact with a liquid crystal is as high as >80%, good orienting property and electric characteristics and excellent reliability can be obtd. By XPS to measure the imidization rate, atoms on the sample surface and bonding state of atoms can be measured. Especially by decreasing the probing angle for photoelectrons during measurement to the substrate surface, the polar can be analyzed. |
