A tampon (8), in particular for use by women suffering from urinary incontinence, is made of a skin-compatible, elastic material, which in the wet state can be compressed against a restoring force, in particular a plastic foam such as polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). Such tampons exercise a pressure on the urethra (11) when they are inserted into the vagina and prevent involuntary urine losses. A non-insulated, electroconductive electrode (9) is enclosed in the material of the tampon (8) and connected to an insulated connection cable (3) which extends out of the material of the tampon (8). This enables the tampon (8) to be used not only to effectively prevent incontinence but also in therapeutic processes such as electrostimulation therapy or iontophoresis, and in measurement processes such as electromyography. |
