In a process to desorb impurities which have been adsorbed into a mass of esp. granules, the granules are flushed with a carrier gas from which the impurities are subsequently removed by condensation or freezing. The novelty is that: (a) the desorbed impurities (5) are condensed or frozen out of the carrier gas, by contact (6) with a low-temperature liquid gas (7); (b) the low-temperature gas evaporates (3), and the resulting evaporated gas is re-used as a desorption agent (2); (c) the low-temperature liquid gas is nitrogen; (d) the adsorption agent is esp. active carbon granules.
