Fire extinguishers comprising filament-wound reinforced synthetic resin body to which end caps are bonded by rotating the parts relative to each other while in contact until the frictional heat fuses the resin. Extinguisher has cylindrical body and end caps, bonded to each other by spin welding. Parts are pref. made of glass fibre reinforced synthetic resin (not specified) by filament winding onto high density polyethylene former (100). Glass/resin is fed from an extruder nozzle (140) and wound onto the former to give windings (160), while simultaneously the windings are coated with a layer of synthetic resin from nozzle (120), to improve interlayer adhesion. High strength body, capable of withstanding usage pressures without deterioration. |
