Motor vehicle gear-shift mechanism

A gear-shift mechanism to demand an upshift or change-up process and a return-shift process in a gearbox with several transmission ratios has several shifting forks of which each one can move along the axis of the gearbox in order to engage a transmission ratio. The mechanism has a coulisse with a layout that has an upshift plane with an upshift position and a return shift plane with a return shift position. A shift lever can move into these positions to demand a change of transmission ratio and it is connected to the gearbox "in operative fashion" to move one of the forks for the engagement of one of the several transmission ratios if an upshift or return shift is demanded and to move one of the forks for the disengagement of one of the several gear ratios if the lever is moved out of the upshift and return shift positions. A control device determines the appropriate gear transmission ratio to be selected out of the several and the correct axial direction that the correct shifting fork is to be moved.
