The invention concerns a device for machining a part by metal cutting comprising a massive block (1) in a bore of which is located a sliding column (3) guided in a front bearing (8) and a rear bearing (9), at least the front bearing (8) and the section (27) of the column (3) sliding therein being continuously convex in cross-section with three lobes distributed at 120 DEG about a central axis. The front (8) and rear(9) bearings are hydrostatic journal bearings. The column supports a sliding block (4) on which is mounted a slide (5) in which is incorporated a turret head (6) for dispensing cutting tools (7).
