PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for cleaning an exhaust gas, which is capable of obtaining a high nitrogen oxide removing ratio to the exhaust gas containing reducing components containing a hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide, oxygen in a quantity exceeding the stoichiometric quantity necessary for oxidizing the reducing components and nitrogen oxide and is excellent in high temp. durability under the coexistence of moisture and SOx , and a cleaning method of the exhaust gas using the same. SOLUTION: The catalyst is a catalyst prepared by carrying iridium (a), at least one kind of an element (b) selected from a group composed of an alkali metal and an alkaline earth metal and zirconium (c) on titanium oxide and phosphorus (d) is further carried on the catalyst. The exhaust gas is brought into contact with the catalyst. |
