PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a processing time, to prevent being affected even if a rule is unclear, and to improve the precision in type decision by performing the type decision of form based on a character code string being the result of character recognition. SOLUTION: A user sets a form document to a scanner 108, and directs the starting of an image reading (OCR) program from a keyboard 109. Responding to this, a character recognition program is loaded in a program area in a work memory 104 from an HDD 107 and executed by a control CPU 101. Then, the identification code of a form written in a format dictionary 122 is obtained corresponding to an identification name written in the form in the text form. Thus, the type contents of the form are disseminated, and the control CPPU 101 extract format data corresponding to a form code from a format table 123 by retrieving in order to perform character recognition with respect to a handwritten character in a reading form picture. |
