PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for saving toner in a laser beam printer capable of enhancing printing quality by executing a toner saving process uniformly even when printing an image. SOLUTION: This device comprises a memory 101 that stores eight lines of image data, a dither pattern detecting circuit 104 that compares eighty one dots of image data having 9 dots in a main scanning direction and 9 dots in a sub-scanning direction with a preregistered dither pattern, detects whether or not they are matched with each other and outputs a detection signal when they are matched, an AND circuit 106 that detects whether or not a target pixel corresponds to an edge and an AND circuit 107 that cancels an edge detection signal when the detection signal is outputted from the dither pattern detecting circuit 104 even in the case where the edge detection signal is outputted from the AND circuit 106. |
