SYSTEM FOR FORMING PROGRAM GUIDE AND VIDEO DATA FOR STORAGE AND TRANSMISSION IN DIFFERENT SIGNAL FORMATS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate decoding of video data at a receiver by forming and integrating program guide information into video program data stream for storage on a storage medium or broadcasting in a variable encoding format for broadcasting. SOLUTION: The video data are formatted in one of plural encoding formats to be outputted as a suitable form to one of plural output channels. The program guide information is formed, while containing a channel map to be related with a video program in the output channel. The program guide information relates the encoding format with the channel map. The program guide information and video data are integrated into data stream, and the data stream is supplied to the output channel. A device for demodulating and decoding signals in the variable encoding format for broadcasting is composed of an input processor 20, demodulator 25, and differential decoder 30 or the like.
