PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure the manual shifting operation with no risk of slippage in the case a shift lever is swung in the manual range to make manual shifting wherein the arrangement includes auto range to make the change-over of the shift position automatically and a manual range to make changing over manually. SOLUTION: When a shift lever 3 is turned into the manual range, the foremost detention part 14a of a leaf spring 14 attached to the lever 3 is engaged by a detent recess 13m for selection of manual range, wherein the detent recess 13m is formed long so that no obstruction is generated for manual shifting operation. Another detent to serve at the time of swinging oscillatively is provided in the same recess 1 3m, so as to enhance the feeling of manual shifting operation.
