<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing titanium oxide, capable of increasing a treating amount in a pigment production facility, also less in production of a byproduct in a form of an iron compound, and having an economical property and an environmentally permissible property. SOLUTION: This method for producing titanium oxide comprises immersing an ilmenite mineral with a warm sulfuric acid for forming a titanium sulfate solution, as necessary adding a reducing agent to the titanium sulfate solution and then precipitating a titanium oxide containing water from the titanium sulfate solution. In this case, the ilmenite mineral has a composition of at least 92wt.% iron presenting in the mineral being a ferrous state, and the reducing agent in the case of being added, is added in an equivalent amount to <4.0wt.% metallic iron calculated based on the above ilmenite mineral.</p> |
