PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow the television receiver to select and set automatically an audio and video output mode suitable for a program and depending on the category of the program. SOLUTION: The television receiver stores each audio and video output mode suitable for each category of each program, receives a program guide to store each category of each program. When a user selects a program, the television receiver reads the category of the selected program and reads and sets the audio and video output mode suitable for the category of the program. A microprocessor of the television receiver assists the user to retrieve the selected program through the use of a key pad 128 or an IR remote controller 130. Furthermore, the microprocessor 124 controls a tuner 102 and a TS decoder 108 to output audio and video signals of the program selected by the user. |
