Energy saving communication terminal e.g. for facsimile apparatus

The terminal has a main control device (101) for controlling the whole communication terminal. It also has an additional control device (104). This administers the operation and conditions of the communication terminal, instead of the main controller (101), when the communication terminal is in a stand-by state, so long as energy is not supplied to the main controller (101). A time manager (105) controls a time period which expires during the stand-by state of the communication terminal, as long as the additional control device (104) is operable. The time manager (105) provides timing information to the additional controller (104). Before the communication terminal is in the stand-by state, the main controller (101) outputs a precisely determined time point for lifting the stand-by state to the additional controller. In the stand-by state, the additional control device (104) compares the time information and the lifting time point. When that time point is reached, the stand-by state is lifted so as to start an energy supply to the main controller (101) and to the previously selected devices.
