The vehicle seat with a variable configuration comprises a frame (12), two front (18) and rear (20) feet each having one end articulated on the frame. A servomechanism (32) providing positioning of the front and rear feet relative to the frame has front (34) and rear (36) ends articulated on the feet. The feet articulated ends and the servomechanism define the tops of an articulated quadrilateral enabling, when it is deformed, displacement of the rear foot between an active projecting anchoring position on the vehicle floor and a retracted position against the frame. The rear end of the servomechanism is articulated by a coupling (42) to the rear foot which can be de-clutched if the displacement of the rear foot is accidentally impeded. The coupling comprises an open ring rotating around a ring (46) whose axis is coincident with the rear foot articulation axis (X) on the frame. The internal and external contours of the ring have complementary parts (50,52) for fixing the rotation. The open ring is radially deformable between the engagement position of the complementary parts and their separated position.
