PRODUCTION OF OPTICALLY ACTIVE 2-ARALKYL-3-ACYLTHIOPROPIONATE ESTER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an optically active 2-aralkyl-3- acylthiopropionate ester in an industrially utilizable short process using a low cost catalyst. SOLUTION: This method for producing an optically active 2-aralkyl-3- acylthiopropionate ester comprises subjecting a 2-aralkyl acrylate ester of the formula (R<1> is a 1-4C alkyl group, a 6-10C aryl group or a 10-14C aralkyl group; Ar is a substituted or non-substituted 6-10C aryl group) to an addition reaction with a thiol carboxylic acid of the formula: RCOSR (R is a 1-4C alkyl group or a 6-10C aryl group). Therein, a cinchona alkaloid or the cinchona alkaloid in which the hydroxyl group is esterfied is added in a catalytic amount on the addition reaction of the thiol carboxylic acid.
