PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the nickel-cobalt hydroxide capable of giving non-aqueous electrolyte-bearing secondary batteries with large discharge capacity, by continuously feeding an aqueous solution of caustic alkali to a mixture of aqueous nickel salt solution and aqueous cobalt salt solution and by collecting the resultant product from the liquid system. SOLUTION: First, a vessel with its pH and temperature adjusted is fed with an aqueous nickel salt solution 40-60g/L in terms of metallic nickel level and an aqueous cobalt salt solution to obtain a nickel salt-cobalt mixed aqueous solution. Thereafter, the mixed aqueous solution is continuously fed with an aqueous caustic alkali solution and the product is collected from the liquid continuously overflowing the vessel, thus obtaining the objective nickel-cobalt hydroxide for the battery-active substance of non-aqueous electrolyte. This hydroxide has the following characteristics: formula: Niv COw (OH)2 (0.7<=(v)<=0.9; (v+w)=1); the half-width of the peak for (101)-plane determined by X-ray diffractiometry with CuKα-ray as radiation source: <=1.0; and the integral intensity ratio (101)/(001) for the peak for (101)-plane and that for (001)-plane: 0.3-1.0. |
