Opto-coupler apparatus with waveguide structure on substrate

The apparatus includes a substrate upon which lies a laminate of two dielectric layers (1,2) forming a waveguide structure. Also provided is a light impingement component (4) on the waveguide structure, to which it is adhered to by an adhesive section (5). The refraction index of one dielectric layer (1) is intermediate between those of the adhesive section and of the second dielectric layer (2). The adhesive section has an edge face (7), cutting the surface of the waveguide structure along a straight line. A light impingement section contains the light impingement component and the adhesive section and protrudes over the edge face in the direction of light propagation in the waveguide structure.
