The various parts and peripherals of a multimedia Personal Computer, e.g. system unit, display, audio devices, CD drives, modems, are conventionally linked by multicore interconnection cables. The present modular system enables the components to be physically fastened together and electrically interconnected without the need for signal cables. Typically, the units (1, 2) have a triangular cross-section, which can "sit" at the back of a desk. At each end of the unit is a dove-tail protrusion (8) or recess (7) and an electrical plug or socket (14, 15). The plugs and sockets carry power supplies and signal buses. When the units have been physically joined, the user slides a button at the rear of the unit sideways to engage the connectors.
