PURPOSE:To regenerate a deteriorated ferrite carrier and to restore the original characteristics by heating the carrier recovered from a developing device to remove substances sticking to the surface and by heating the carrier again to regulate the electric resistance. CONSTITUTION:A ferrite as a magnetic oxide, that is, MFe2O4 (where M is Mn, Co or the like) is granulated and baked to obtain a ferrite carrier. This carrier is mixed with a toner and used for development in a developing device. When the carrier is deteriorated, it is recovered from the device. Air is blown on the recovered carrier to remove toner particles, etc., sticking loosely to the carrier particles. The carrier is then heated to above a temp. at which toner particles, etc., sticking to the surface can be burned. The carrier is heated again to regulate the electric resistance of the carrier particles. By this second heating, the effect of fine ferrite powder produced by overbaking can be eliminated. Since the recovered ferrite carrier is heated in two steps, the properties of the regenerated carrier can be made comparable to those of a fresh carrier. |
