Salt- or brackish water is transported to site and there distributed. One or more salt- or brackish-water wells are sunk at the roadside, and are provided with tapping points (2) for connection to the pump of a fire engine (3) or other equipment distributing the water. Further salt can be added to the water before use, also potassium, typically derived from water-purification equipment, or calcium chloride. For distribution a fire-engine can be used, spraying the water over ice on the road surface, and the water from the well can be heated before spraying.
