The ink economiser systems causes the equipment to operate in two modes for image transfer. The first mode operates at nominal ink consumption. The second mode operates at a reduced ink consumption. The ink remaining (37) is compared (28) with a set level. When the ink remaining exceeds the set level the equipment operates at the nominal ink consumption, otherwise at reduced level. The ink demand is reduced by reducing the density of the dots printed on a page, or by reducing the number of colours. The number of jets used by the print head is reduced to reduce the ink consumption in the low level mode. |
