A cable tester in a data transmitter which judges whether or not a cable abnormally operates by means of a generating function of a fixed pattern is disclosed. In the tester, monitor control interface device(15) interfaces a monitor and control signal through a monitor control bus between a transmission data processor and a monitor controller and selects one of a real transmitting data or a fixed pattern. A fixed pattern generator(16) receives a transmitting clock and a sync frame and generates a fixed pattern suitable for the sync frame. A line driver(13) selects one of the transmitting data of the transmission data processor and the fixed pattern of the fixed pattern generator(16) and converts the selected signal into a =F signal.
