Composite and monolithic refractory structure, adapted parti cularly for production of glass furnaces, is made of a component in the shape of block, consisting of the electro-cast of the refr actory material based on oxides of aluminium, zirconium, silicon and the like, the shape and parameters of which are adapted to th e expected use and inside of which there is monolithically insert ed at least one protective element. The protective element is hig hly resistant against the effects of the molten glass and is sele cted from the metals, noble metals, refractory metals, refractory materials, conventional and non-conventional ceramic materials, such as carbides, nitrides, borides, etc., or from the materials based on the base of graphite, the alloys thereof and/ or mixture s, and/ or compounds. Element is shaped in the shape of a disc, t he shape and proportions of which are adapted to the peripheral p rofile of the refractory block and is arranged inside of the bloc k so that this disc creates an insert, which effects as a continu ous protective barrier against the influences on the refractory m aterial. Disclosed is also production method for composite refrac tory structure in conventional melting furnaces.
