1,013,397. Drying fuel. UNITED STATES STEEL CORPORATION. Oct. 28, 1963 [Nov. 8, 1962], No. 42475/63. Headings F4B and F4G. Coal of ¢ inch or less for introduction through the tuyeres of a blast furnace is dried by the top gas from a blast furnace in a fluidized bed drier 10, fed to a sizing screen 21 from which oversize particles are passed to a pulverizer 24 and returned to the screen 21 and particles for use in the furnace are fed to a hopper 23. The gas from the drier 10 passes through a cyclone separator 26, whence the dust is fed to the screen 21, through a scrubber 28, separator 30 and cooler 31 to a pump 34 which feeds it through a drier 38 to a holder 40, where gas is drawn through the coal hopper 23, where it entrains coal dust to the blast furnace tuyeres. Part of the gas is withdrawn after the cooler 31 and used in hot blast stoves or elsewhere. The temperature in the fluidized bed is controlled by passing some of the blast furnace gas direct to the scrubber 28, and the level of the bed is regulated by controlling the flow from the bed through conduit 20. The scrubbed and cooled gas may be purified and preheated before it passes to the gas-holder 40.
|
