<p>A system and apparatus for detecting and evaluating surface conditions on a road surface from a moving vehicle. The system comprises a platform (12) which is mounted on a vehicle (10). The platform (12) is constructed to carry or have imbedded therein various sensors (18, 20, 22, and/or 24). These sensors (18, 20, 22, and/or 24) have access to the material to be sensed. These sensors (18, 20, 22, and/or 24) are connected, via a cable (30), to a display (28) which is capable of controlling, communicating with, and powering the sensors (18, 20, 22, and/or 24) as well as interpreting sensor data, and preferably includes display/input devices which can display information, accept outside input, store commands, and retrieve data.</p> |
