The appts. comprises a circuit (5) to detect the call from the remote terminal on a telephone line (2). An identification circuit (8) recognises a code sent by the caller. The caller is interrupted by a switching unit (7) controlled by the detection circuit (5) and identification circuit. A call back unit (11) is triggered by the switching unit (7) and automatically recalls the remote terminal and connects the data server for access. A control unit (10) disconnects the remote unit when the interrogation of the data server is complete and re-initialises the system.
