PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of a trouble due to a delay in a countermeasure by a method wherein when speed change abnormality is detected, output torque of an engine is reduced, a speed change command value is fixed to a value corresponding to a set change gear ratio, and a speed is reduced to a value at which a speed change command value is adjusted to a value corresponding to the set change gear ratio. SOLUTION: In a toroidal type continuously variable transmission, when abnormality of speed change to the low speed change gear ratio side occurs to the number Ne of revolutions of an engine, a speed change abnormality detecting means sets an engine torque control flag FLGe to 1 with the aid of a torque down means. The set engine torque control flag is transmitted to an engine controller 67 to reduce torque of an engine. While a number of steps command value ASTP exceeds the target number of steps of a step motor 4, the number of steps command value ASTP is reduced by a speed change speed reducing means. When the engine torque flag FLGe is 0, a lockup signal L/U is brought into an OFF-state, and a torque converter is held in a converter state in which input and output elements are not directly coupled with each other. |
