PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an oil cooler for an automobile excellent in heat exchange efficiency and lightweighted and compact by forming such structure that the wind blows efficiently against plate fins. SOLUTION: An oil cooler for an automobile consists of an oil flow tube of approximately U-shape with two almost parallel straight pipe parts, and a large number of longitudinal plate fins 5 provided with straight pipe part through-holes 6 at both end parts and fitted across two straight pipe parts. This oil cooler is installed in such a way that the wind blows almost parallel with the plate fins 5. A plurality of louvers 9 extended in the lengthwise direction of the plate fins 5 are formed parallelly in lateral symmetry at a part surrounded by both side edge parts 5A at the middle part of the length of the plate fins 5 and the opposed edge parts 5B of both straight pipe part through-holes 6, and the angleθof each louver 9 to the face of the plate fin 5 is made 15 deg.-30 deg..
