Mouthpiece cigarettes wherein the tobacco portion 1 and mouthpiece portion 2 may be of different diameters are made by uniting the two portions with a uniting strip 3 which is slit on at least one edge, as at 4, to form tongues 6. The strip 3 may be of a width suitable for uniting two cigarette portions with a double length mouthpiece portion (Fig. 2) or of a width suitable for joining a single cigarette to a single length mouthpiece portion (Fig. 3). The slits are made by a slitter roller 8 having knives 9 which co-operate with a counter surface. |
