PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the reliability and durability of a device by dispensing with a complicated transfer belt cleaning mechanism and the sharpness of image quality by eliminating a failure in a transfer such as transfer blotting, repelling, etc. SOLUTION: In an image forming device provided with a toner image forming means for forming a toner image on an image carrier 10 and a transfer means for transferring the toner image to a recording material P by a transfer electrode 34 provided on the inside of a rotatable endless-like transfer belt 31 facing the image carrier 10 with the recording paper P, a pretransfer electrode 32 is disposed on the inside of the transfer belt 31, on the upstream side in the carrying direction of the toner image of the transfer electrode 34 and when the recording material P does not pass a transfer means, a bias voltage applied to the transfer electrode 34 and the pretransfer electrode 32 is controlled to alternately switch the polarity of the total charge injected to the transfer belt 31 from the transfer electrode 34 and the pretransfer electrode 32, for every one rotation of the transfer belt 31, while several rotations of it is made in a state where the transfer belt 31 is in contact with the periphery of the image carrier 10. |
