N-methyldeacetylcolchiceinamide derivatives represented by the formula wherein R denotes a residue obtained by removing COOH from a C3-C7 sugar carboxylic acid, and hydroxyl groups present in the residue may be protected with a protecting group, and salts thereof have low toxicity and inhibit the proliferation of tumor cells.
