The sheet feeder installation has a suction head which delivers the topmost sheet to a conveyor and printing press. A sensor detects the height of the paper stack and positions the suction delivery unit. The sheet paper feeding system (1) consists of a vertically moveable carrier (7) with a suction head unit (2) positioned above a stack of paper sheets (4) and suction pads (3) carries the first sheet (5) for delivery to a printing press. A detector (8) registers the front edge of the stack and another (12) registers the height at the front. Further sensors (9) register the height and depth at the suction head. A control unit (10) sets the position of the suction unit carrier and another (11) controls the suction air.
