PURPOSE: To provide the method and device for noise elimination which shorten the convergence time and reduce the distortion (residual error) after convergence. CONSTITUTION: A second adaptive filter 6 receives a reference signal from an input terminal 2 to output a pseudo noise signal. A subtractor 7 subtracts the output pseudo noise signal from the reception signal inputted from a sound input terminal 1 and supplies the subtraction result to the adaptive filter 6 as an error signal. A division circuit 10 divides the output sound signal power of a power average circuit 8 obtained from the output error signal of the subtractor 7 by the output noise signal power of a power average circuit 9 obtained from the output pseudo noise signal of the adaptive filter 6 and outputs an estimated value of the power ratio of the signal to the noise (SNR) as the result. A step size output circuit 11 receives the output signal of an SNR estimating circuit 12 as the input and is operated so as to output a value corresponding to this input SNR value as the step size of a first adaptive filter 3. |
