PURPOSE: To provide an electrophotographic photoreceptive member which has excellent electrostatic chargeability, is improved in the slipperiness of its surface, is prevented in the degradation of cleanability even in the case of long-term repetitive use and is capable of maintaining good electrophotographic images by compensating the minute defects on the extreme surface of the photoreceptive member and preventing the implantation of surface charges into a substrate body. CONSTITUTION: This amorphous silicon based photographic photoreceptive member consists of at least a substrate and a photoconductive layer which is composed of an amorphous single crystalline material basically consisting of silicon atoms on the substrate as a base body and contg. at least either of hydrogen atoms or halogen atoms as constituting elements and exhibits photoconductivity. After the extreme surface of the photoreceptive member described above is formed, this member is treated with a material contg. atoms belonging to group Ia of periodic table, by which the member is so formed as to have the region where the density to contain the group Ia atoms attains 10<15> to 10<20> atoms/cm<3> in the region down to a depth of 5000Åfrom the extreme surface. The group Ia atoms of the periodic table are more particularly preferably potassium. The effect is further enhanced by simultaneously incorporating >=2 kinds of the group Ia atoms of the periodic table into the region described above.
