PURPOSE: To prevent data of an unintended bar code from being outputted when plural bar codes are read out through a single scan by the bar code reading device. CONSTITUTION: When data including plural bar codes B are inputted, start and end margin detecting circuits 7 and 8 detect the margins in the data. Further, a counter 9 measures the time up to the detection. Then aΔX arithmetic part 11 finds the differences between the times up to the detection of the margins and the time up to the center of the data. Further, an operation frequency counter 15 counts the frequency 11 of operation of theΔX arithmetic part, i.e., the frequency of detection of the margin. Then aΔX comparison part 12 compares the differences and the value of the operation frequency counter 15 when the differences change from a decrease tendency to an increase tendency is halved and stored in a bar position counter 16. Then the value of the bar position counter 16 is decided as the order of a bar code to be read in the data.
