PURPOSE: To improve the visual angle characteristic by providing the respective substrate surfaces of substrates constituting a liquid crystal cell with plural oriented regions and non-oriented regions and arranging the oriented regions of the one substrate opposite to the non-oriented regions of the other substrate. CONSTITUTION: Resist films are applied on oriented films 2a, 2b formed on the respective surfaces of the substrates 1a, 1b which are paired at the time of forming the liquid crystal cell and the resist patterns 3a, 3b having complementary openings are formed. The resist patterns are formed so that the regions coated with the resist film and the regions not coated with the resist film are evenly distributed in the same area and that the regions coated with the resist on the substrate 1a face the regions not coated with the resists of the substrate 1b when the substrate 1a, 1b face each other. The regions not coated with the resist are subjected to orientation treatments by a rubbing roller 4 in such a manner that the orientation directions of the liquid crystals vary with 90 deg. or 180 deg. within the plane parallel with the substrate surfaces. The oriented parts and non-oriented parts formed on the substrate surfaces facing each other are disposed to face each other after peeling of the resist films to produce the liquid crystal cell 5. |
