PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a computer system having a non-volatile memory. SOLUTION: A programmable memory 12 can store a program and an instruction which can be executed by a CPU 14, and a non-volatile memory 20 is provided so that access can be performed from the CPU 14. System operation validity inspection is operated by a chip identifier placed in a device memory in a system device 16, and the memory functions also as a chip identifier register. Selected information stored in the non-volatile memory 20 is used together with the chip identifier, and a first encipherment code related with the system device 16 is generated. A second encipherement code related with a computer system 10 is generated by using an encipherment key. The first and second encipherment codes are compared, and the system operation validity inspection in a first level is operated. A second chip identifier related with the computer system 10 is generated. The two chip identifiers are compared, and the operation validity inspection in a second level is operated. |
