High frequency ion transfer guidance system for transfer of ions into vacuum of e.g. ion trap mass spectrometer

The ion transfer system involves a vessel (1) which contains a fluid that is sprayed through a fine capillary (2) and into entry point capillaries (3) and into a pumping chamber (4) that has a connection (13) to a pre vacuum pump. The ions are passed over an accelerator (5) and into a second chamber (7) with a connection (14) to a high vacuum pump. Ions are guided through an arrangement (8) having five pole pieces that are supplied with ac voltage at five respective phases and pass into a high vacuum chamber (10) and onto an end cap (11) with associated ring electrodes (12).
