PURPOSE: To improve the wear resistance of a curved-section rail for heavy axle load railway. CONSTITUTION: This highly wear resisting pearlitic rail is composed of a steel which contains >0.85-1.20% C and in which microstructure is constituted by pearlitic structure and the pearlite lamellar spacing (λ), represented byλ= [ferrite thickness (t1 ) + (cementite thickness (t2 ))], is regulated to <=100nm and also the ratio (Rc) of cementite thickness (t2 ) to ferrite thickness (t2 ) in the perlitic structure represented by Rc=t2 /t1 , is regulated to >=0.15. In this rail steel, by refining lamellar spacing (λ) and simultaneously regulating the ratio (Rc) of cementite thickness (t2 ) to ferrite thickness (t1 ) represented by (Rc =t2 /t1 ) so that it is highter than that of the conventional rail steel, wear amount is reduced in the same lamellar spacing as compared with the conventional rail steel, thus wear resistance is remarkably improved.
