Preventing escape of harmful substances from waste disposal site

A method for rendering safe disposal sites for domestic refuse or other types of waste by preventing the escape of harmful substances, comprises injection into the disposal site region (4) of an aq. suspension of swellable clay mineral, e.g. bentonite, in order to fill any voids, gaps or cracks present between the solid components of the disposal site region at least in the outer layer of this region.
