Ligand-receptor assay for determn. of an analyte in a liq. sample comprises: (a) incubating the sample with a luminescence-labelled receptor, and (b) determining the presence and/or amt. of the analyte by measuring the luminescence. The improvement comprises measuring the luminescence in a medium contg. dispersed components (I) which randomise the light generated by the luminescence reaction and opt. create a preferential direction of light scattering. Also claimed is a reagent kit for carrying out above mentioned assay.
