A method for handling a customer service function (4) for users of the subscriber units involves a stage for storing data for each type of subscriber unit, representing the model number, the manufacturer, the physical and functional characteristics for each type of subscriber unit. In response to a request for help from a user, the model number and manufacturer for the subscriber unit of the user are produced, and the storage address for the corresponding data is identified. The storage address is looked up and the stored information values for the subscriber unit of the user are produced. A solution is identified for the difficulties of the user and communicated to them. The mobile subscriber units cover mobile telephones and/or pagers.
