2-Methyldialkoxysilyl propionic acid esters defined by general chemical formula (1): <IMAGE> (1) wherein R is an alkyl group with at most four carbon atoms, and R1 is a monovalent, substituted or unsubstituted, hydrocarbon group with 1 to 12 carbon atoms, are novel compounds with good reactivity. These compounds are extremely useful as alkoxylation agents for the terminal groups of organopolysiloxanes, surface treatment agents for silica, stabilizers during storage and curing agents.
