PURPOSE: To obtain a ceramic sintered compact, containing cubic boron nitride, capable of continuously cutting hard steel, chilled cast iron, etc., at a high speed and excellent in abrasion, fracture and chipping resistances. CONSTITUTION: This ceramic sintered compact containing cubic boron nitride (cBN) comprises one or more of carbides, nitrides and carbonitrides of Ti as a matrix and a composition or a structure in which 10 to <50vol.% cBN having 4-20μm average grain diameter, 0.1-1.0vol.% WC having <=0.2μm average grain diameter, 3-10vol.% Al2 O3 having <=0.2μm average grain diameter, 3-7vol.% AIN having <=0.5μm average grain diameter and 1-5vol.% TiB2 having <=0. 5μm average grain diameter are uniformly dispersed therein. |
